Baby or Tape Worm?
At the end of January this year I remember saying to a co-worker, “I really think I might have a tape worm” I was starving all day long and I couldn’t quite eat enough to get rid of the hunger. I have never had much of an appetite so this was weird for me – I was positive it was a tape worm. Nope, I was just pregnant and didn’t know it yet. Well, the hunger only got worse. It starts at 4:00am when my growling belly wakes me up and I force down crackers to sleep for only 3 more hours when the hunger wakes me again. I head downstairs for some oatmeal and then get ready for work. I grab some kind of breakfast bar to eat on my way to work and then when I get there I start in on a piece of fruit. I usually snack on some almonds to get me through the morning and then eat my breakfast promptly at 11:45am. The day continues like this – me snacking all day until I get home around 5:30 and then force my husband to eat dinner around 6:30. Well, by 9:00pm I am starving again. At this point I am frustrated and mad at my body. I have been seriously eating all day! I eat a peanut butter and Jelly sandwich and then head to bed.
I am begging all of my other pregnant friends to tell me I’m not alone in my crazed hunger. Please tell me you feel you might also be pregnant with a tape worm!!!

Family In town!

Craig's parents and uncle have come in today for the weekend. They are all going to the NCAA Tournament games today and Saturday and then staying to celebrate Easter with us. His sister and future brother in-law are arriving tomorrow night to join us as well. We are all so excited to be together for a nice long weekend.
Our little Poppy Seed baby is now the size of a kumquat. I find that funny since I just bought a package of kumquats at the grocery store. I'm going to make Candied Kumquats for Shane, our future brother in law, who loves them. Well - it will all give us a good visual as to how itty bitty our little baby Brugger is.

Baby Brugger's First Picture

Over the weekend we had a little scare with a fair amount of spotting. Being as anxious as I am - I called the doctor who asked me to come in on Monday. I went in and was given an internal sonogram. Within minutes I could see the baby - it was amazing. The doctor pointed out the head, arms and legs. At 10.5 weeks it was a teeny, tiny little human with a beating heart. I was in awe and relieved that everything was ok. we have another sonogram appointment for April 4th and we can't wait to see how it's grown.
If you turn your head sideways to the left it makes more sense. The baby is on its side facing us. You can see his/her head on the left and it's littel arms on either side.

7 Weeks and First Signs of Spring

This morning I saw the first signs of spring in our yard. One little yellow crocus had popped through the cold dirt. I was so excited to see this. I love spring and have been longing for the sunny days to come.
According to the online calculations I have reached 7 weeks of pregnancy. Woohoo - half way through the first tri-mester. By now our little potty seed is actually the size of a blueberry. I'll have to find a different fruit to snack on in the morning.

I took this picture last year, the morning after I had a Chinese New Year Book Club Meeting at my house. I currently use it as my wallpaper on my laptop. Traveling to and from Syracuse got me thinking about the Chinese Year our baby would be born into. I did a little online searching and found that 2008 is the year of the Rat - well that didn't sound too good.
The info I found said that those born in the year of the rat tend to be leaders, pioneers, and conquerors. They are charming, passionate, charismatic, practical, and hard working. Now that was better news - sounds like a person that both my husband and I would really love to know.

Breakfast

I went down to the little coffee place in my building this morning to get a bagel for breakfast. The women behind the counter asked me if I wanted "Onion or Poppy Seed". This was not a hard decision to make - of course I wanted Onion! No way could I imagine chomping down on all those little poppy seeds.
